OXYGEN THERAPY |
The management of oxygen as therapeutic form
is known as Oxygen Therepy. This therepy benefits the patient by
improving the oxygen supply to his lungs and thus enhances the
availability of oxygen to his body tissues. Suitable oxygen levels
are essential for supporting cell respiration. Raised oxygen levels
of blood and tissue could be supportive or destructive depending on
the specific circumstances.
Types of Oxygen Therepy: There are several types of oxygen
therapies like: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Home Oxygen Therepy,
Liquid Oxygen Therapy and some more. The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therepy
is the use of high levels of oxygen for treating certain specific
diseases. The higher levels of oxygen administered to the neonates
leads blindness by supporting the overgrowth of new blood vessels in
the eyes that in turn block the eye sight. This is retinopathy of prematurity – ROP. Application of increased levels of oxygen
especially in patients having acute emphysema and higher blood
carbon dioxide minimizes the respiratory system which may result in
abrupt respiratory failure and death.
Home Oxygen Therapy: This specific therapy refers the
management of oxygen as continuing therepy, either consistent of
sporadically. The patients who are most usually suffering from
intensive persistent obstructive pulmonary disease having occurred
because of smoking habits are recommended Home Oxygen Therepy. In
Home Oxygen Therapy, high concentration of oxygen to almost 100
percent is used for terminating cluster headache attacks developed
due to its vasoconstrictive effects.
Liquid Therapy: Since very recent past, the liquid oxygen system has
exhibited striking and suitable source of oxygen. The significant
feature of this system is that oxygen condensed into the liquid form
permits storage of the larger supply.
